2024 Grenache Wins Best Australian Grenache Trophy at IWC

The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is one of the most highly entered and competitive wine shows in the world.

We're very proud to see MMAD Vineyard receive its first trophy in this competition.
The 2024 MMAD Vineyard Grenache was awarded the trophy for Best Australian Grenache at the International Wine Challenge in London in May, 2026 scoring 96 Points.

The judges highlighted the evolution of modern Grenache styles: "The Grenache revival continues. This has fragrant red fruits, crushed raspberries and strawberries with a flecking of sweet biscuit, plus a dash of herb leaf, and tannins that are classy and mouthwatering."

From the Winemaker

"We were drawn to MMAD Vineyard from the very beginning because we recognised its extraordinary potential in this unique pocket of Blewitt Springs – particularly for old vine Grenache.

From day one, our goal has been to be thoughtful custodians of this special vineyard: to care for these rare old vines and craft a modern expression of Greanche – site driven, fresh and vibrant.

To now see these wines recognised internationally is incredibly rewarding."

The 2024 Grenache is now available and was well received by Australian wine critics:

"Now bottled under Diam, a preference based on tasting trials. This is in excellent form – duskily floral, mineral, with old-vine depth and balance, silky, plush in the right way through the midpalate, bunch notes adding ultra-subtle spice and chewy tannin to the sandy, silty skin tannin.

There’s something about the fruit, off those ’39 vines on sandy soils, that is so distinctive, with deep blue and purple florals, sultry and spicy, dark red fruits, ripe but weightless. There are also blue fruit tones and a maritime, iodine quality, an iron oxide note present but not dominant. The aroma is showstopping but not showy.

In fact, it took me some time to taste the wine, such is the allure; but the palate confirms that this is likely the best release yet."

    "Glory be.

This is a shockingly beautiful red wine, fragrant and expressive, fruity and savoury, smoky, perfumed, juicy and electrically well sustained. You don’t roll out the red carpet for this wine; it is the red carpet. It shows red and blue berry flavours, floral notes, positive reduction, black olives and whispers of anise. The finesse and stretch of the tannin here, bearing fruit-laden goods as it flares through the finish, is almost worth the price of admission alone.

Blewitt Springs you beauty. Hell yes."
